Information for Plumbing Contractors

This information is for plumbing and irrigation contractors engaged to work at Aquacell sites. It is important that it is read and understood prior to commencing work.

A greywater or blackwater recycling system is installed at the following sites:

K2 Sustainable Housing Project
Blacktown Workers Sports Club
Blue Mountains YHA
Joalah Holiday Park
Birrigai Outdoor School
Cardita Apartments (Lot 7, Stockland Prince Henry)

Wastewater is collected treated and reused for any combination of: irrigation, toilet flushing, laundry applications, car washing facilities, water features and/or cooling towers at the site.

The treatment plant is maintained and operated under contract by Aquacell Pty Ltd. The recycled water system is maintained at a pressure less than the mains water system. Maximum recycled water pressure at the treatment plant is approximately 250 kPa less than mains water pressure.

Standards

The recycled water distribution and reticulation system has been designed and constructed in accordance with Water Supply Code of Australia (WSA 03-2002,WSAA), and all subsequent plumbing works are to be undertaken in accordance with AS/NZS 3500:2003 National Plumbing and Drainage Code and the Plumbing Industry Commission (PIC) Recycled Water Plumbing Guidelines.

All recycled water pipe installations and markings are in accordance with the above codes and guidelines. You should be familiar with these codes and guidelines before commencing work on the site.

Under no circumstances is there to be a cross-connection between the recycled water system and the mains drinking water service. Please note, however, the recycled water system may have a drinking water (mains) supply back-up that is protected by an air gap to prevent any cross connections.

You must ensure any alterations to plumbing systems, especially the recycled water system, are recorded with the reticulation scheme operator and are in accordance with relevant codes and guidelines.
